L.A. Weekly is proud to announce that after a few years' absence, Garrett Snyder has returned to the paper as Food Editor. Sarah Bennett, who has served nobly as Food Editor for a little over a year, has decided to focus more on her career in academics, though she will continue to be a regular contributor to the Weekly's food and culture sections.

Snyder first began at the Weekly in early 2012 as food blogger, after writing his own well-regarded food blog for some time. He left to be Tasting Table's L.A. editor, then went on to run the food blog for Los Angeles Magazine.

In her announcement to staff about Snyder's new role, L.A. Weekly Editor Mara Shalhoup wrote, “Garrett is a sharp and engaging writer with deep knowledge of L.A.'s vast food scene. He gets the Weekly, and he'll hit the ground running.”

Snyder is not the only new hire in recent weeks. We've also recently brought on Gwynedd Stuart as Deputy Editor of Arts & Culture. Stuart comes to us from the Chicago Reader, where she was associate editor.

Hooray for new (and returning) friends.
