Are you a college or graduate student with a knack for breaking news, reporting stories and creating and sharing online content on social media? Do you dream of joining in the discussion at L.A. Weekly staff meetings and bylining features from our Culver City office? 

We're currently hiring part-time news, web and art interns to join our editorial team during the summer of 2014. Interns work one-on-one with editors to pitch, report and write their own stories, which appear online and occasionally also end up as print features. Many of our past interns have gone on to freelance for us on a regular basis; a few have even landed salaried jobs.

Because this internship is unpaid, you do need to be enrolled in a college or a university that's willing to provide course credit in exchange for your time here. The internships are about 15-20 hours per week, running from May/June through August/September, with the exact hours and length to be determined based on the intern's schedule and credit arrangement.

For our news intern, we're looking for a candidate with experience reporting hard news at college and an interest in covering areas such as the environment, government, development, politics, crime and science.  Our news interns have previously written about natural disasters, health concerns and education reform on our Informer blog as well as in our print paper.  

We're also looking to hire a web intern who will serve as photo editor and social media manager. The ideal candidate will have experience in online journalism and social media and will work alongside the web editor to produce and promote compelling content. Interns may write for any of our website's blogs and should come prepared to write at least one post per week. 

Lastly, we're seeking an arts intern with an interest in writing about culture – anything from television, comedy, film, theater, dance and fine art – for our arts blog, Public Spectacle. The arts intern will work closely with our deputy arts and culture editor to pitch stories, conduct research and upload blog posts. Past interns have written about film, web series and books and television.
