The line of voters was slow going at Hollywood City Hall this morning — at one point the queue stretched an entire block. And more than once, members of the precinct's staff came out to ask if anyone wanted to volunteer to help. You’d get 75 bucks for your service — and some priceless civic pride. (At least one guy took them up.)

But as they snaked toward the polls, voters were quick about one thing: their willingness to explain why they're voting.
