Hollywood Boulevard has come a long way from its Wild West days of gang crimes and streetside drug dealing only 10 or so years ago. But, despite the nightlife-oriented gentrification, the area seems to have way more than its share of shootings, violence and crime.

Over the weekend three people were stabbed at L.A. Tattoo, a well-reviewed parlor on Hollywood Boulevard, and two of the victims were critically wounded but later stabilized, authorities said.

The attack, at 6547 Hollywood Blvd., only a few blocks from next weekend's Academy Awards, was reported at 2:24 a.m. Saturday, according to the LAPD.

A freelance video crew that rushed to the scene found out that the victims were attacked in the doorway of the business but collapsed inside, according to City News Service:

One of the victims was stabbed in the abdomen, another was stuck in the back and a third suffered a hand laceration.

The attacker was still on the loose.

The LAPD's description makes him sound like a cholo — in his early- to mid-30s with a shaved head, a mustache and wearing a Pendleton-style flannel jacket.

L.A. Tattoo gets strong reviews on Yelp. It stays open until 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. But one reviewer noted that during his tattooing:

We shot the shit, talked about crazy fools out on the boulevard, I watched them physically remove some troublemakers. Good stuff.
