This won't knock you off your chair, but here's some urgent, breaking news for you: Los Angeles traffic continues to be the worst in the United States.

Don't yawn. Show some pride. We're national champions at the game of congestion.

GPS company TomTom this week released its annual Traffic Index, which ranks not only U.S. cities but metro areas worldwide. L.A. came in 10th place for crap traffic globally.

Awesome.

In the United States, we edged out No. 2 San Francisco, No. 3 Honolulu, No. 4 New York and No. 5 Seattle.

TomTom says Angelenos with a 30-minute commute spend several hours more per year on the road as a result of congestion: “In Los Angeles, a 30-minute commute in the evening will take 54 minutes due to congestion, an extra 92 hours annually,” the company states.

TomTom says the most congested day of the year in L.A. for 2014 was … Valentine's Day! That was probably the fault of guys clogging the road trying to get to the nearest drugstore for a last-minute, $1 chocolate rose. So romantic.

The worst day for traffic overall continues to be Thursday. Because you're all trying to sneak out of town and take a three-day weekend. So clever.

Just don't go to Istanbul. It has the worst traffic in the world.
