Kombucha, kefir, and kimchi were plentiful this past Sunday at L.A.’s first ever food fermentation festival. Angelenos of all ages gathered on the grounds of the old Venice police station to sample a vast array of California’s best fermented foods, participate in hands-on demos, and create pickled concoctions of their own. The twenty-one-and-over crowd was also treated to a farm-to-bar area featuring meads, ales, and other fermented beverages.
