The good old days of standing in line at a food truck in L.A. are over. Long live food truck delivery! 

The idea of sending food trucks to people at home or in the office started in cities like Portland and Chicago as a way to keep business flowing during crappy weather. Now the concept lands in sunny L.A. with Nummy, a new delivery-oriented truck and app started by the owner of Roaming Hunger, the real-time food truck directory that also helps connect trucks with catering and event opportunities. 

But unlike food trucks in those other cities (or in L.A.), the Nummy app allows you to order delivery from the truck itself, which features a small daily menu of dishes such as tamarind-rubbed ribs and Tijuana Mac and Cheese (with chorizo and pasilla sofrito). You can also use the app to order the food for pick up.

“What we’ve done is turn the food delivery experience upside down,” says Ross Resnick, CEO of Roaming Hunger. “We’ve created a menu from the ground up that was built for delivery.”

For now, Nummy is only parking on Jefferson Boulevard and Hoover near USC (where Resnick went to school and where a half-dozen other trucks post up daily) Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is offering deliveries, which are free and include tip, within a launch area that includes University Park and downtown L.A.

Resnick says the company has plans to expand the service to Eagle Rock and Santa Monica by the end of the year.
