Last June, we spoke to Blue Crow Media's Mark Lamberton while he was in town doing research for his and brother Derek's L.A.'s Best Coffee app. Our conversation was read far and wide. Okay, so the “wide” part refers to the refrigerator above which sits in the southwest London kitchen of Derek and Mark's mother, Mary Lamberton. That said, she still put us next to Brad Pitt and gave our story better placement than the one about her boys that ran in a British newspaper.

A few days ago, the L.A.'s Best Coffee app was launched and is now available on iTunes. It's exactly as promised:

For a one-off charge of 99 cents you get a searchable, interactive map, a list of the Top 25 best places to get a cup of coffee here, the standard Yelp-ish details (hours, address, phone number) as well as a description of the type of machine, grinder and beans the cafe uses. Two months ago, Mark Lamberton mentioned that his method of tracking down superior cups of coffee was by having a friend drop him off and then walking through java-obsessed neighborhoods. What he didn't say that he was still able to assemble what we consider our favorite footnote: After each cafe description, the app explains parking availability.
