Despite lagging passenger traffic, Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa apparently wants to hold on to LA/Ontario International airport as part of the city's Los Angeles World Airports department that includes LAX and Van Nuys Airport too. There was some talk of selling control of the Inland Empire facility — which is an hour away from Los Angeles — back to the city of Ontario, especially at a time when the city of L.A. is treading financial water. But no.

Gina Marie Lindsey, executive director of LAWA, said (via the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin) it would be a bad time to let it go — at the bottom of the real estate market.

“This may not be the best time to sell an asset like that,” Lindsey told the city's Board of Airport Commissioners. “So we haven't looked at that option.”

Plus, she said, “Our mayor's office is not really interested in selling the airport back to Ontario.”
