Donald Trump is scheduled to come to Los Angeles, home of nearly 5 million Latinos, on Friday.

Given his June 16 remarks about Mexican immigrants — they're criminals and “rapists” — Trump coming to town would be like Jenny McCarthy visiting the National Science Foundation.

But worse.

We spoke to a few Latino groups and, as expected, it doesn't look as if the GOP presidential candidate will be welcome here. The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA), for one, says it will embark on a social media campaign, starting today, to pressure the venue to pull out.

“If Mr. Trump is coming to L.A., he should be prepared to know that L.A. will not be welcoming him with open arms,” says CHIRLA director of communications Jorge-Mario Cabrera. “There will be some social media campaigning that will call on the hotel to rescind their invitation to Mr. Trump.”

The venue is the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel, which so far appears to be sticking with the Trump party. Amy Commans, general manager of the hotel situated off the 405 freeway, says:

Events occur at our hotels regularly. The organizations who book these events are solely responsible for their speakers and their content.

Trump is scheduled to speak at a dinner organized by Friends of Abe, a secretive, 1,800-member group of conservative Hollywood entertainers and moguls. Membership is said to include the likes of Pat Boone, Jon Voight and Kelsey Grammer.

Tessie Borden, director of communications for the pro-immigrant Central American Resource Center (CARECEN), says:

We don't feel particularly welcoming of him, but he does have a right to come campaign in L.A. just like anyone else. Will we be there to roll out the red carpet? Of course not.

Of course, Trump has a history of saying one thing and doing another, including a vow to run for president in 2012 that ended with his campaign exit before financial disclosure would have been required.

The question is, is he really coming here?

We predict that the hotel, facing pressure from Latino groups, will cave before Trump even steps on his private jet. But you never know.
