People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, better known as PETA, just released its newest list of the 10 most vegan-friendly cities in America, and, unsurprisingly, Los Angeles is near the top (though not actually at the top). Considering L.A. was previously ranked third in 2013 and eighth in 2010, a second-place finish ain't bad.

The top honor for 2016 went to Portland, Oregon, which received its award for most vegan-friendly city from Paul McCartney in a recent ceremony.

PETA is quick to mention that our health-obsessed city filled with celebrity yoga instructors has it pretty good when it comes to plant-based options. We've got vegan ramen at Ramen Hood, vegan Mexican food at Gracias Madre, (mostly) vegan beer bars like Mohawk Bend, vegan fast food at Organix and Doomie's Home Cookin', vegan doughnuts at Donut Friend, vegan food brought to you by a famous person at Moby's Little Pine and vegan food for famous people at Tal Ronnen's celebrity-studded Crossroads. L.A. also scores points for having the most listings on HappyCow — a website that lists vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants — and for being home to an animal rights–related museum and PETA’s West Coast headquarters.

So how did we lose to Portland? Blame it on their famous vegan strip club or their selection of vegan medical practitioners, vegan counselors and vegan real estate agents (all real!). Hmm, maybe being in second place is OK after all.
