Among our many fine distinctions — smog capital, traffic capital, douche capital — is a new one:

The U.S. Postal Service this week ranked Los Angeles No. 1 among big cities where carriers are attacked by dogs. The USPS released the list of top dog-attack cities, based on the number of incidents, as part of the upcoming National Dog Bite Prevention Week. Grrrr:

We beat out San Antonio and Seattle (tied for second) as well as Chicago, San Francisco and Philadelphia.

We're the mad-dog epicenter.

The Postal Service wants dog owners to be more careful about safety, especially around its employees who, perhaps conveniently for some canines, like to wear shorts in warm weather.

(Seeing those fine postal calves for some pooches must be like dangling a porn star in front of Charlie Sheen.)

There were 69 attacks on mail carriers in L.A. last year, the USPS says. Ken Snavely, acting postmaster of Los Angeles:

If our letter carriers deem your loose dog to be a threat, you'll be asked to pick up your mail at the post office until it's safe to deliver.

Bummer.
