Dennis RomeroLos Angeles has it's share of pretty people, what with Hollywood serving as a perpetual magnet for former prom kings and queens across the heartland who think they have what it takes to make it.
Add in a little alcohol, via Hollywood's raucous club scene, the Westside's foodie havens, Koreatown's karaoke rooms and downtown's cocktail labs, and you have a decent settling for mingling.
The only caveat we would add is that living single in this town is a hardship, given our shameful housing crisis and astronomical rents. But you can always get a roommate or two, right?
Anyway, the latest data release from Travel + Leisure’s America’s Favorite Places survey confirms that single life in L.A. is among the best in America. In fact, we made number 8 on the list.
The publican's numbers crunchers looked at the following criteria in order to determine “America's Best Cities for Singles,” Travel + Leisure says:
The winning cities in the singles-scene category excel in the off-hours, ranking highly for nightclubs, dive bars, and even great diners, where you might lock eyes with someone over a late-night order of fries.

L.A.'s revived downtown appears to have done the trick. According to Travel + Leisure:
Angelenos made a strong first impression on readers: attractive people with an on-trend sense of style. Within the sprawling metropolis, the revived downtown is one of the best places to break the ice. Go bar-hopping from the buzzy roof of the Ace Hotel to 82, a “bar arcade” with craft cocktails, vintage pinball machines, and old-school games like Frogger and Tron—an easy way to ask someone if they’d like to share your next life. Looking like an insider always helps in L.A., of course, and one good in-the-know spot is The Varnish, a speakeasy-style bar tucked behind the famous Cole’s French Dip on E. 6th Street.
Strangely, L.A. was beaten by number 7 Nashville. Miami (1), Houston (2), and New Orleans (3) comprised the top 3.
At least we beat out New York (number 9). Must be the weather.
