A new look at “The 20 Best Places for 20-Somethings” in America ranks the L.A. metro region, including Long Beach and Santa Ana, as a top-10 draw for young hipsters:
We're No. 8, according to the website NerdWallet, which a spokeswoman describes as “a financial literacy and consumer advocacy site.”
Sounds about right to us. While we here at L.A. Weekly world headquarters think Los Angeles is the capital of all that is cool, it's hard to deny the allure of New York, Miami, San Francisco or even San Diego. Especially when you're in your 20s.
The site says it looked at data connected to jobs, housing, cost of living, demographics and social scenes to come up with its ranking.
Washington, D.C. (!?), San Francisco and New York took the top three spots.

NerdWallet says of L.A., in part:
Los Angeles is a young city, with over 15% of the population aged between 20 and 29. Part of that is due to the numerous colleges in the area, as students settle down in the city after graduation. Santa Monica is a popular beach community with one of the most active bar scenes, while Venice Beach next door is more down-to-earth. Also be sure to check out the up-and-coming neighborhood of Silver Lake, home to artists and creative types.
Sounds like a winner to us.
