Two east coast glossies recently shipped in to chime in on some LA sounds, both of which offer nice snapshots of LA music goings on. The first is Sasha Frere Jones' New Yorker piece on Flying Lotus, whose Los Angeles is popping up on a lot of year-end best of lists.

The second is Jenny Eliscu's smart piece on the Laurel Canyon scene in this week's Rolling Stone. It concentrates on Jonathan Wilson's regular jam sessions, which have drawn a host of locals including Jenny Lewis, Johnathan Rice and Gary Louris, namechecks the Entrance Band, Chapin Sisters, and Whispertown 2000, among others, and effectively captures the essence among the hills — gravity bongs and all.
