Starting Monday, up until 11:59 p.m. Friday, residential tenants in Los Angeles will be able to apply for rent assistance through the Emergency Renters Relief Program.

The program would grant up to $1,000 per month for rent, with a maximum allowance of $2,000 per household. The money would go directly to the tenant’s landlord. 

To qualify, applicants must live in the city of L.A., be at or below 80 percent of the area’s median income, or have been economically affected by COVID-19. 

After the registration period ends, applicants will be selected at random. Immigration status will not be taken into consideration.  

Application for the Emergency Renters Relief Program is online through the Housing and Community Investment Department site; Angelenos can also apply by calling the application hotline at (844) 325-1398.

The site is already “experiencing high volume of traffic,” and users  are being asked to try the site again in 30 minutes.
