Los Angeles Department of Water and Power General Manager Austin Beutner announced Wednesday that termination proceedings against two employees caught drinking on the job in a recent CBS2 investigation have begun. The two, who have not been identified, can appeal the decision in a process that will take about two weeks, according to the DWP.

Six workers had been suspended after the report — which showed at least one employee allegedly drinking and driving and others attending a strip club during work hours — aired on April 29. The DWP states that its investigation, run by a former Los Angeles Police Department captain, was still ongoing.

Beutner reserved some ire for CBS2 because, he stated, the station was not cooperating with its investigation. The DWP wants exact dates and times for the station's footage, but so far isn't getting answers; the station also refused to give up raw footage.

” … We fail to see how the failure to provide us with basic information — dates, times, and unedited footage — serves the community at-large,” he said.

The expose came as the City Council was battling its own department over $73.5 million the DWP had promised to fork over to general coffers. The money was withheld as the department — the city's richest, with its highest-paid workers — was squeezing the council to implement a rate hike.
