Seems to us that, in the days leading up the annual Academy Awards, the LAPD cleans up the streets as well as any strong Pacific storm would.

True to form, the LAPD has a solid lineup of DUI checkpoints and drunk-driver patrols waiting for you this weekend. The L.A. County Sheriff's Department and Pasadena police are also joining in on the fun.

In the city of Los Angeles, the LAPD will be operating a checkpoint near The Grove shopping center, a first in recent years if our memory is correct, as well as a pair of DUI patrols downtown. Here's the 411:
]
–Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. there will be a DUI checkpoint on Fairfax Avenue at Colgate Avenue near The Grove.

–Today and tonight, from 4 p.m. to midnight, extra cars and motorcycles will be patrolling the streets of downtown in search of drunk drivers. The LAPD calls this a “saturation patrol.”

-Tonight from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. another saturation patrol will happen, this time in the LAPD's 77th Street Division area of South L.A.

–Tonight the L.A. County Sheriff's Department will have its own checkpoint running somewhere in the city of Santa Clarita (they're not saying exactly where). It happens from 6 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., the department states.

–Tonight from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. sheriff's deputies will have a checkpoint in operation somewhere in the city of La Puente.

–Tonight from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. a sheriff's checkpoint will be up and running somewhere in the city of Malibu.

–Tonight from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. it's the Pasadena Police Department's turn to run a checkpoint somewhere in its jurisdiction.

–Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. the LAPD will have a checkpoint waiting for you on Van Nuys Boulevard at Roscoe Boulevard in panoramic Panorama City.

–Saturday from 4 p.m. to midnight the LAPD will operate a saturation patrol in the downtown area.
