Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey’s husband, David Lacey, faces assault charges after waving a gun toward Black Lives Matter protesters in a March 2 incident.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra charged Mr. Lacey with three counts of Assault with a Firearm, according to a document obtained by Politico.

The document continues that Lacey “willfully and unlawfully” committed assault upon Melina Rachal Abdullah —  co-founder of BLM Los Angeles — Dahlia Ferlito and Justin Andrew Marks.

The incident occurred before the nationwide George Floyd protests began, when Black Lives Matter Los Angeles members knocked on the door of Lacey’s Granada Hills home and were allegedly met by husband David Lacey with gun in hand.

On the day of the incident, Abdullah posted a video of the incident, where David Lacey is allegedly seen with a gun, saying, “Get off of my porch. I will shoot you.”

In Abdullah’s tweet, she said, “I’m front of DA Jackie Lacey’s house for that community meeting she promised with the @BLMLA crew. Rang her bell to invite her. Her husband pulled a gun, cocked it, pointed it at my chest and said ‘I’ll shoot you. I don’t care who you are.'”

Also on the day of the incident, Lacey held a press conference explaining the situation, saying, “… our home is our sanctuary. I do not believe it is fair, or right for protesters to show up at the homes of people who dedicate their lives to public service.”

In the press conference, Lacey also detailed her experience as District Attorney, saying that she had received death threats, has been followed and confronted multiple times in public.

BLM Los Angeles hosts weekly “Jackie Lacey Must Go” protests in front of the Los Angeles Hall of Justice, as the organization believes Lacey does not properly prosecute police officers, and Abdullah has said in past rallies that Lacey has been “complicit in the killings of our people.”

The next protest against Lacey will be Wednesday, August 5, where Abdullah said she would address the charges against Lacey’s husband.

Lacey is up for re-election in November, running against former LAPD officer/former San Francisco District Attorney, George Gascón.
