Two sisters of Monica Beresford-Redman, the woman found dead in Mexico this week, sought the intervention of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office in the case, Associated Press is reporting.

D.A.'s spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons conformed that the sisters' lawyer met with D.A.'s officials Monday. “We have asked the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office to assist in any way that they can in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Monica Burgos,” attorney Alison Triessl, the sisters' attorney, wrote in a statement quoted by AP.

Mexican authorities were reportedly waiting for forensic-test results before possibly moving against the victim's husband, Bruce Beresford-Redman, a sometime producer of reality television show Survivor.

The woman's body was found Thursday near the Cancun hotel where the couple had stayed on a family vacation. She was apparently strangled and might have also sustained blunt head wounds. Bruce Beresford-Redman, who took off for L.A. to drop off the couple's young sons before returning to Mexico last week to report her missing, was said to have scratches on his neck.

Monica Beresford-Redman co-owns nightspot and eatery Zabumba in Palms and, as such, had become a fixture in L.A.'s Brazilian community.
