L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger announced that she tested positive for COVID-19 Monday.

“Today I tested positive for [COVID-19],” Barger said on her Twitter account. “Feels like a cold, but each person’s experience is different. Time to walk the talk – I’m isolating, getting rest and keeping my loved ones at a distance.”

In an interview with KTTV, Barger said she was fully vaccinated and received a booster shot and said she began feeling COVID-19 symptoms on New Year’s Eve.

Like many Angelenos, Barger said she was having trouble finding a way to get tested for COVID-19, but was able to find a single open slot at a CVS Pharmacy on January 2, about 10 miles from her residence.

She described her symptoms as a “bad cold” and thought it may have been a seasonal allergic reaction.

Barger added that she had previously purchased over-the-counter at-home antigen tests that she gave away to friends, thinking she would not need them.

L.A. County reported 21,790 new single-day positive COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, with 24 new deaths. There are also 1,994 people in L.A. County hospitalized with COVID-19.
