L.A. County may be easing its indoor mask mandate as soon as Friday, February 25, according to Supervisor Janice Hahn.

Hahn tweeted out that vaccinated Angelenos may be able to forego mask-wearing indoors, so long as the business asks for proof of vaccination.

“LA County DPH is issuing a new Health Order (looks like it will take effect Friday) allowing vaccinated people to take off their masks indoors at places that check for proof of vaccination,” Hahn said Tuesday. “This puts us significantly closer to aligning with the State.”

Proof of vaccination to enter businesses is currently not mandated under the county, but is a requirement under the city of Los Angeles.

The state lifted its mask mandate, giving California counties the ability to adjust accordingly, however, counties are allowed to keep more restrictive measures at their discretion.

Under California’s mask regulations, unvaccinated individuals are still asked to wear masks, although proof of vaccination is not enforced.  The exceptions where all individuals must still wear masks indoors are in K-12 schools, public transportation and nursing homes.

On March 15, L.A. County lifted its mask mandate for outdoor “mega events,” as well as outdoor school settings.

As of this writing, L.A. Public Health has not made any official announcement for the mask mandate adjustments.
