Dirck White, 42, was one of the Pacific Northwest's most-wanted men.

On Feb. 6, authorities say, he shot a Clackamas County, Oregon inspector who had stopped him for lacking a back license plate on a trailer White was towing. Authorities in that county also alleged that White “had an active warrant for his arrest out of Pierce County, Washington for weapons charges.”

He was also, the local sheriff's department stated, “wanted for questioning in a child rape case.”

Los Angeles Police Department officers on Sunday morning critically injured White after responding to a call of a car break-in in Hollywood.

It wasn't until last night that the LAPD revealed the man officers shot in that confrontation was White.

The suspect was in critical condition, according to the department.

Cops say that after responding to a 10 a.m. call of an auto burglary in the 5400 block Lemon Grove Avenue on Sunday, responding officers came across a suspect at Lemon Grove and Wilton Place. He allegedly ran.

Police ran after him and one cop even got the help of a taxicab that offered transportation, the LAPD said:

After traveling a short distance, they located the suspect hiding behind a parked vehicle. As both officers exited their vehicles, the suspect brandished a handgun, fired at officers and an officer involved shooting occurred.

The department's Force Investigation Division was assigned to look into the shooting.

Oregon authorities say that on Feb. 6 a local weighmaster, Grady Waxenfelter, was “executed” after he stopped White to tell him about the plate. The man was fatally shot in the head.

Waxenfelter, a 47-year-old who left behind a wife and three children, might have been mistaken for an officer of the law, which he reportedly was not.

White was believed to have fled in a 2004 Mercedes-Benz E320. Maybe he was (allegedly) looking for a new ride in Hollywood, because Oregon authorities had publicized a photo of that silver sedan as they offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to White's arrest.

In Montana White reportedly did time for assault and obstructing a police officer.

L.A. Sheriff's Department inmate data says White was being held in lieu of $3 million bail but that he also has a no-bail hold for the murder allegation.

Because he allegedly fired at LAPD officers, the department says White also “faces possible charges of attempted murder of a police officer in California in addition to the Oregon murder charge.”
