Cops are on the lookout for a man who has threatened to kill schoolchildren and commit “suicide by cop.”

Frank Edward Edmonds is said to have made “disturbing” threats during recent mental confinement at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, according to the L.A. County Probation Department. Even though the 40-year-old now has a warrant for his arrest, he had been released by authorities on May 6:

Authorities say he's on three years probation for resisting arrest and that he has a battery allegations pending.

Edmonds' record, according to county officials, includes assault with a deadly weapon, battery, resisting arrest, DUI and more.

He's served three prison terms, including a 6-year stint for assault with a deadly weapon, authorities said.

Edmonds is registered as a student at L.A. Southwest College, has an address in Inglewood, and is known to frequent Compton, officials said.

He's 5 feet, 10 inches, 180 pounds, with plenty of tattoos, the county said. If you see him contact the local probation tip line at 855-563-7725.

We reached out to a county probation spokeswoman to find out why he was released but had yet to hear back.

[Added at 12:46 p.m.]: It appears that the “release” in question was Edmonds' discharge from Harbor-UCLA, we were told: After he was discharged, Inglwood police became aware of the alleged threats and issued a warrant.

We're still trying to find out more and left messages with Inglewood authorities.
