The Los Angeles City Council approved an order requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter indoor spaces such as restaurants, movie theaters, gyms and malls, Wednesday.

The order received the required eight votes from the council, a week after Councilman Joe Buscaino’s withheld vote kept the order from passing.

On Wednesday’s second reading of the order, a unanimous vote was not needed to pass.

If religious or medical exemptions are given to an individual, proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours would would need to be shown to enter an indoor space.

The order is stricter than L.A. County’s indoor order, which only required proof of vaccination at establishments that served alcohol, or held more than 1,000 guests.
