Mayor Eric Garcetti said he would be relaunching the Business Ambassadors Program this week to “remind businesses and educate them” of COVID-19 business compliance rules. This comes after the city received 549 complaints of Los Angeles businesses not complying with COVID-19 health protocols.

“I’m announcing we are re-launching the Business Ambassadors Program that showed us so much success early on in this fight, sending out dozens of city workers who every day visit businesses, where we have a report of a problem and non-compliance,” Garcetti said.

Garcetti asked businesses to refer to the business operations “toolkit” which carries guidelines for employees, manufacturers and customers who interact with businesses.

The mayor added that they would like to help businesses get up to code without needing to include law enforcement.

In mid-June, inspections of restaurants were done on a county level in Los Angeles, finding half of the 2,000 businesses that were inspected to not be compliant with COVID-19 health regulations.

In perhaps Los Angeles’ strictest business ordinance, the County Board of Supervisors passed a motion on July 7 to revoke permits of restaurants that do not comply with health orders on more than one occasion. Public Health has until July 21 to come up with a plan of enforcement based on the severity of the violations.
