Whomever says Los Angeles doesn't have seasons is obtuse. Sure, our complaints about the latest weather bringing “cold” temperatures would make any Midwesterner laugh.

But still, Monday's high was 91 degrees. This morning we woke up to temperatures in the 40s and 50s. Add to that wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour, tree limbs crashing, palm fronds flying and at least one Jack In The Box sign tumbling to the ground in North Hollywood, and you have weather.

Overnight about 40,000 homes in the Los Angeles area were without power, with 27,000 of those households being Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers. In an update posted early this morning, the DWP has reduced that number to 9,400.

Customers without power included 2,348 homes and businesses in Hollywood, 1,757 in Mar Vista and 1,031 in Northridge. And, in case our weather isn't bizarre enough, there's a red flag fire warning in effect. Cool, windy and possibly blazing — just the way we like it.
