Kraft Foods has recalled almost 8,000 cases of Kraft American Singles Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product that were distributed nationwide because an ingredient wasn't stored at the proper temperature, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

While “unlikely,” this could lead to premature spoilage or foodborne illness, according to the FDA. No illnesses have been reported (officially — however, see below). The affected product is limited to four varieties with “Best When Used By” dates of Feb. 20, 2015, and Feb. 21, 2015. (The “Best When Used By” dates are on the bottom of the package.)

Kraft Foods doesn't mention the recall on its Kraft Singles webpage, where it describes its American cheese product, introduced in 1965, thusly:  “With its perfect melt and consistently creamy texture, Kraft Singles has been THE American cheese at the dinner table, in school lunch boxes and more for 45 years. Kraft American Singles are an excellent source of calcium and a good source of vitamin D.”

That has not stopped consumers from freaking out on Kraft's Facebook page. “What happens if you bought some ate the whole package and don't have the wrapper? What will it do to you???? Are we suppose to keep the receipt and wrapper for everything we buy???? Worried!!!” wrote one. “My 6 year old son has been throwing up for days and my wife and son have been sick too. Just read of the recall and we have the cheese and the day before they all got sick we had veggie burgers with your cheese. So what happens now? My son lost a day of school from this too and is still sick. Threw up today,” wrote a concerned dad. 


Many consumers expressed displeasure: “I ate this freaking cheese and was wondering why it tasted funny and they got the nerves to say take it back to the store and get a refund or a replacement. Wondering why I have been feeling sick on the stomach all weekend. Thanks Kraft. This is a joke. SMH, so now I got to spend my time and money to return the product. Really”

Really. No one likes feeling sick on the stomach. So if you have one of the recalled products, you should not eat them. Return the funny cheese to the store where you bought it for an exchange or full refund.

Other Kraft food-like products include Jell-O, Kool-Aid, Cheez Whiz, Lunchables, Maxwell House, Oscar Mayer, Philadelphia, Planters and Velveeta.
