Cats are like grandmothers: We love our own, but who wants to hear about anybody else's? Proving the exception to that rule may be the lineup of storytellers Wendy Hammers has assembled for her latest installment of Tasty Words , subtitled “Calypso, Queen of the Couch, and Other Cat Stories.” At her dog-themed show a while back, that included stories by Laraine Newman and Elayne Boosler; Merrill Markoe told an absolutely fall-down-hysterical story about her pooch, Puppyboy, and his attempts to coerce a house guest to throw his deflated rubber ball. Can a cat story deliver such unrestrained pathos and pity? Let's not kid ourselves, cats don't really give a crap about us. Writers Dylan Brody, Tony Abatemarco (pictured), Rebecca Dru, Julie Mermelstein, Howard Smith, Jean Franzblau and host Hammers will share personal tales of feline grooviness. And dig this (maybe) special guest: Julie Newmar, Catwoman from Batman, who knows a thing or two about clawing her way to the top.
