In honor of World Oceans Day this week, Kind Traveler has just launched Every Adventure Gives Back, starting with a program on Catalina Island in partnership with three locally owned adventure companies and Love Catalina Island.
The initiative reimagines how tourism experiences, like kayaking, scuba diving, and snorkeling, can actively support local ocean and wildlife nonprofits.
The pilot for Every Adventure Gives Back launched in January 2025, in collaboration with Love Catalina Island Tourism Authority, as part of a broader statewide responsible tourism initiative led by Visit California. The three locally owned adventure companies are Scuba by Design, Catalina Compass, and Wet Spot Rentals.
Each company donates a portion of every adventure experience to Bleu World, a nonprofit organization that supports ocean conservation and citizen science efforts. The new category of responsible travel has already raised more than $822,000 through hotel stays and adventure and tour operators.
The participating companies will provide tanks to 112 science divers to conduct reef survey dives around the island at a crucial time, as Southern California’s marine ecosystems face a domoic acid crisis, harming hundreds of sea lions and dolphins.
Catalina Courtyard Suites has also joined the initiative, supporting Bleu World with each overnight guest stay. The Avalon Hotel, a longtime partner, continues to fund the Marine Mammal Care Center, which has provided 1,717 meals for marine mammal patients.
A women- and veteran-owned company, Kind Traveler is the first responsible travel platform that encourages travelers to positively impact the communities they visit by supporting local environmental, community, and animal welfare initiatives. Through its signature Every Stay Gives Back and Every Adventure Gives Back programs, a portion of each booking funds local nonprofits.
