Randall RobertsThose of you just returning from Jamaica, the French Riviera, Dubai or Missouri may have missed the interesting Christmas that singer/rapper Kid Cudi had last week during a media blitz in LA.
On Monday, December 21, he and his entourage were rolling down Fairfax in Hollywood when Johnny Law pulled him over. Cudi and co. were returning from an NME photoshoot; helicopters looking for a burglar spied Cudi's SUV, which matched the description of the perps. Boom, the law swoops in and nabs the rapper. NME snagged an interview with him after it happened.
Wrote the NME:
“Who knows, really, the story changed a bunch,” [Cudi] said. “I'm just happy to be back. I'm a free man! For that moment I was not free. I was in handcuffs. It did not feel very comfortable.”
He added that he did not begrudge the police for the error: “We're in LA, it's a rowdy place in the United States, you know? And a lot of shit goes down. And these cops have to use force. So it's, like, I understand that they were doing their job. I just wish we weren't in that place at that time.”
There was a bunch of hoo-ha that day about whether, in fact, Cudi had been arrested. We called LAPD to get the answers, and tweeted it.
On Tuesday night, Cudi took the stage at Club Nokia, and LA Weekly's Colin Young-Wolff was there. So was will.i.am., man.

Kanye west was in the house, too, and he didn't apologize for interrupting Cudi or anything.

On Wednesday, Cudi performed again at Club Nokia, but he wasn't arrested and Kanye didn't show. Christmas eve was Thursday, and nothing exciting happened. On Friday, Kid Cudi celebrated Christmas, relaxed in the knowledge that he was safe in Cleveland, or New York, or where ever he awaited Santa. Phew. It's been a banner year for the rapper. Next year, he'll collaborate with Cage, record a follow-up, and not tour anymore with Lady GaGa.
