A shooting in the wee hours of April Fool's Day took the life of 27-year-old strip-club patron Keyon Kiles — or “K3” to his friends.

The L.A. County Coroner's report indicates that Kiles died from a “gunshot wound to head” at Fantasy Gold Club, located along the PCH in the Harbor area. And Sergeant Richard Gabaldon at the LAPD's Harbor Station tells City News Service that “there was a dispute, the suspect retrieved a handgun outside, walked in and shot the victim one time in the head.”

The victim appears to have grown up in Long Beach, where he played as a cornerback for the Long Beach High School football team. Online player profiles indicate that he later played in college for the Boise State Broncos.

Kiles was shot dead around 1:50 a.m. by “a black man in a hooded sweatshirt, armed with a blue-steel semiautomatic pistol,” reports City News.

Investigators believe the strip-club shooting may be tied to a car-to-car shooting around the same time at the next-door Harbor Inn.

An unknown suspect opened fire on three women in a parked vehicle; however, unlike Kiles, they all survived the hit.

And coincidentally, later that April Fool's Day, a patron at Snooky's bikini bar in northeast L.A. County was shot dead by a security guard.

Though his friends remember him as a respected father and football player, Kiles had a history with the law. When he was 18, he was charged with “criminal conspiracy” for trying to rob a couple at an Irvine park.

More recently, the Daily Breeze reports…

… Kiles was arrested in 2004 on suspicion of possession of a firearm in a vehicle. He was convicted in 2009 in Long Beach court of carrying a concealed weapon.

In 2010, Kiles was charged with robbery, assault with a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and brandishing a weapon. He pleaded no contest on Jan. 24, 2011, to the assault with a firearm charge and was sentenced June 1 to a year in jail and three years probation, prosecutors said.
