A 22-year-old transgender woman is the latest fatality in L.A.'s hit-and-run epidemic.

Pedestrian Keymontae Mackenzie was killed in an early-morning collision over the weekend on Santa Monica Boulevard east of Highland Avenue, the LAPD said in a statement.

L.A. Fire Department paramedics rushed to the scene, but …

… they couldn't revive her, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

It happened about 3 a.m. Friday, the LAPD stated:

… A motorist traveling eastbound on Santa Monica Boulevard just east of Highland Avenue, collided with the pedestrian who was apparently stepping off the curb/sidewalk when he was struck. The motorist continued eastbound on Santa Monica Boulevard, failing to stop and render aid or to identify himself.

Detectives this week were looking for an older model, light-colored Ford Thunderbird and its driver. The car probably has front-end damage.
