Father and Son Involved in Deadly DUI Accident on Center Avenue

JOSHUA TREE, CA (March 24, 2022) – 49-year-old Kevin Spruell Sr. lost his life after a fatal DUI collision on Center Avenue, Monday night.

The accident happened around 8:40 p.m., near the intersection of Center Avenue and Shifting Sands.

Officials said that 24-year-old Kevin Spruell Jr. was driving a northbound 2000 Chevrolet Tracker when he lost control and overturned onto a dirt berm on private property.

The impact of the crash ejected both men from the vehicle onto the road. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics declared Spruell Sr. dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, medics took the driver to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. In addition, officers evaluated him for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Authorities eventually arrested the driver on DUI charges.

Officials confirmed both Spruell Jr. and Spruell Sr. were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Further investigation of this accident is still ongoing. Joshua Tree officials will release updates when it becomes available.
