Pedestrian Hospitalized after DUI Accident on Cherry Street in Chico
CHICO, CA (December 23, 2021) – Authorities arrested Keith Rector after a DUI pedestrian collision on 5th Street, Thursday night.
The incident occurred around 11:50 p.m., in the area of West 5th and Cherry Street. Dispatchers responded to the scene shortly after.
Witnesses reported seeing Rector’s black sedan driving westbound on West 5th Street and hitting a pedestrian in an unmarked crosswalk. The impact sent the pedestrian into the air before falling to the ground.
After the collision, Rector fled the scene without rendering aid to the severely injured pedestrian.
Emergency responders arrived and took the victim to a hospital where the pedestrian had to undergo a surgery due to their “extremely critical” condition.
At this time, authorities have not yet released the identity of the injured pedestrian.
Twenty minutes after the crash, 26-year-old Rector of Chico, who was intoxicated, went back and surrendered. As a result, police arrested him for felony DUI and felony hit-and-run.
