Traffic Collision on Southern Avenue Left One Dead, 4-Year-Old Child Hurt

PHOENIX, AZ (April 18, 2022) – Tuesday evening, a vehicle crash on 32nd Avenue claimed the life of Katrina Dean, police said.

The crash happened near 32nd Avenue and Southern Avenue just before 8:00 p.m.

Furthermore, officers learned that the driver of the Camaro, 18-year-old Eulalio Juarez Rodriguez, was driving west on Southern at about 115 miles per hour just two-and-a-half seconds before the crash happened.

Moreover, authorities say the car slowed to about 88 miles per hour about half a second before the crash.

Consequently, the Camaro hit a Hyundai driving east on Southern, trying to make a left turn on 32nd Avenue.

Eventually, the Hyundai spun around and crashed into a wooden power pole.

Police said the driver of the Hyundai, identified as Dean, died at the scene.

Meanwhile, her 4-year-old daughter suffered major injuries. Paramedics transported the victim to a hospital for further treatment.

According to the police, Rodriguez has been booked into jail on suspicion of manslaughter. However, impairment did not play a factor in the incident.

The fatal crash remains under active investigation.
