72-Year-Old Woman Fatally Injured in Construction Collision near Interstate 805

SAN DIEGO, CA (June 5, 2023) – Early Friday afternoon, Karen Cooper was killed in a rollover accident on State Route 52.

Authorities responded to the scene just before 1:00 p.m., near Interstate 805 on May 26th.

Per reports, Cooper was in the front passenger seat of a Mercedes Benz SUV traveling near San Clemente Park. Suddenly, the driver of a Chevrolet pickup-truck carrying construction materials lost control and overturned multiple times.

While construction materials were falling down State Route 52, a cement bag from the Chevrolet fell on top of the windshield of the Mercedes. Medics arrived and pronounced 72-year-old Cooper dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the drivers of the Mercedes and the Chevrolet pickup-truck remained uninjured.

Following preliminary duties, officers ruled out alcohol or drugs as a potential factor. Once available, further details will be provided.
