Justin Wesson, the son of L.A. City Council president Herb Wesson, was arrested over the weekend for alleged drunk driving, authorities tell the Weekly.

Normally we might raise an eyebrow and wonder about dirty political tricks. After all, it wouldn't be the first time around here. Allegedly.

But …

… the younger Wesson, who's 30, did apparently drive into a DUI checkpoint downtown on Saturday. He works in his father's City Council office and — perhaps — should have known better.

We say that because practically the whole world was warned of said checkpoint at Ninth and Figueroa streets near LA Live. In fact, we wrote about it. In fact, we just looked through our inbox to confirm that Wesson's office receives the same LAPD press releases we do that warn of upcoming checkpoints.

Dude.

Anyway, he's innocent until proven guilty.

LAPD Sgt. Ben Zucker told us Wesson was arrested about 8:15 p.m. Saturday. That was just 15 minutes after the checkpoint was set up by the LAPD.

L.A. county sheriff's inmate data shows Justin Skyler Wesson was jailed at 9:46 p.m. in lieu of $5,000 bail and released the next day.

City Attorney's spokesman Frank Mateljan confirmed the arrest and said prosecutors were awaiting results of lab tests on Wesson's blood alcohol level to decide whether or not to pursue the case.

In the meantime, arraignment was scheduled for Oct. 18, he said.

Wesson's Facebook page indicates he's a Loyola High School alum and UCLA grad.
