Sorry, girls. It looks like that Justin Bieber shop that was proposed for the Grove shopping center in the Fairfax district is a FAIL for now, according to reports.

A Bieber spokeswoman told the Los Angeles Times “everything had fallen through. It's not happening.”

This after we had the nerve to trumpet it as the next coming of Hey-soos if you're between the ages of 8 and 12. Oh well. Good news, perhaps, for Grove shoppers through …

… Our commenter of the day, Woodymcbreairty, says the Grove is becoming to big for its britches.

Since it opened in 2002 adjacent to the Farmer's Market, the shopping center — with its Apple store, Nordstrom, Barnes & Noble and Victoria's Secret — has become a go-to spot for celebrities, rich Westsiders and people watchers.

It seemed to suck the life out of Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade overnight.

Despite its lackluster architectural reviews — mainly for creating yet another commerce center in L.A. that turns its back on the street — we kind of like the Grove, as do many. It feels like a town square, albeit an artificial one.

Others have a love-hate relationship with its Disney-ness — and its crowds.

Says Woodymcbreairty:

The Grove has already become a zoo – sort of – with all the show biz stuff going on – attracting crowds of star struck people, it's a mob scene. I's a wonder the stores actually do any business amid all the hoopla.

Is the Grove played out?
