Lina LecaroWe can all agree on love, can’t we? When we’re in it, there’s nothing better. When we lose it, there’s nothing worse. It’s unpredictable, transforming and magical. But it takes focus and care. To keep love alive we can’t take it for granted and we need to nurture it. These are the basic concepts behind The Museum Of Love, a space designed as an interactive journey for couples.
Opening on Melrose near LACC just in time for Valentines Day, this is more than a selfie-op pop-up. The museum simulates the different phases of a relationship as you walk through, offering activities, games and exhibits that allow guests to uncover new insights about each other. The creators hope that couples of all types will walk away transformed, having learned new things about their partners (everyone gets a special memory “love book” to record their experiences). The walk-thru lasts about 45 minutes to 1 hour, but can last longer depending on the conversation each activity sparks, how many photos you take and what you decide to write in your book. Reservations are required and are made through ticket purchases.

Conceived by Psychology Professor Amy Sweetman, who’s been teaching Psychology, Neuroscience and the Psychology of Sexuality for 25 years, The Museum of Love is, “a personal bucket list project,” she says, developed for couples to improve their relationships. It’s starts with a love wall in which couples write down how they met, then continues with interactive questions that give answers into personality traits and tastes, as well as history of great romances, the medical science behind amor, and more.
We wont reveal too much more because part of the fun is not knowing what you’ll see as you walk through, but it is “G-rated,” dealing with emotional love, not lust (a fun exercise in which you draw what your orgasm looks like is as racy as it gets). This artful experience is ultimately about understanding -and appreciating- each other, making it one of the most unique date nights in L.A.
