In 2007, a 19-year-old girl reported that LAPD officer Russell Mecano paid her for sex.

In 2008, an 18-year-old complained that Mecano had sexually assaulted her.

This morning, it took a jury only two hours to decide that Mecano was guilty of both.

According to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, Mecano faces nearly 10 years in prison after being found guilty of misdemeanor prostitution solicitation and two felonies, sexual battery and penetration with a foreign object by force or duress.

The prostitution charge stems from an incident in 2007 when Mecano, 43, paid a 19-year-old transient $200 in cash following her arrest to have sex with him, states the DA's office.

Mecano gave the woman the money and told her to meet him at a Holiday Inn. Instead, she took a cab to the beach and later reported the incident to the cops.

Seven months later, according to the DA, Mecano told an 18-year-old that he would not arrest her for having a marijuana pipe in exchange for sex.

Mecano, who worked at the West LA Division, was found guilty of sexually assaulting the woman near the Palisades Branch Library. As in the first case, he told her to meet him at the same Holiday Inn.

Once again, Mecano's victim did not show up at the hotel, and she too reported the assault.

Mecano was arrested in October 2008, the same day he was indicted. He will be sentenced in mid-April.
