Summer is DUI season.

Though we're not officially there yet (summer starts June 20), it's clear that police are gearing up for one of the deadliest times of year when it comes to drunk driver–related collisions.

The Los Angeles Police Department is getting a head start with the first DUI checkpoints and patrols of June. They start tonight.

“The DUI checkpoints bring a laser focus to communities where DUI traffic collisions are occurring that are preventable through education and enforcement,” the department says in a statement.

The cost of a DUI arrest these days is about $16,000 over the life of the case, the Auto Club of Southern California says. So your summer could be over before it even started.

Here are your details, according to the LAPD:

-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., a DUI checkpoint will be waiting for you at on La Brea Avenue at Melrose Avenue in the Fairfax District.

-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., a checkpoint will be running on Sepulveda Boulevard at Parthenia Street in lovely North Hills.

– Saturday from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., a checkpoint will be awaiting your arrival on Vermont Avenue at 135th Street in L.A.'s slimmest community, Harbor Gateway.

-Sunday from noon to 8 p.m., extra police will be patrolling the streets of the department's Southeast Division area, which includes Watts, Harbor Gateway and parts of South L.A.

Be safe.
