14-Year-Old Boy Injured in Bicycle-Auto Collision Near 27th Street
LOS ANGELES, CA (June 21, 2023) – Friday evening, a hit-and-run crash on Main Street left 14-year-old Julio Flores with serious injuries.
According to the police, the collision happened on May 16th, at around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Main and 27th Streets.
Initially, a black 2014 Kia Optima was stolen by four males at the 300 block of West 14th Street. Investigators said the tires of the speeding Kia started to lose traction as the suspects approached Adams Boulevard.
Consequently, the driver fully lost control, letting the Kia travel in the opposing lane and hit the Flores. Authorities said that the driver did not stop and render aid to the young bicyclist.
Responding medical personnel rushed Flores to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Reports said that the 14-year-old will need several months to recover and regain his ability to walk. Meanwhile, the family of Julio Flores started a GoFundMe page to help with the teenager’s recovery expenses.
At this time, the Los Angeles Police are looking for the suspects, men ages 18 to 20 years old. Additionally, authorities believed that the man suspected of stealing the vehicle was between the ages of 35 and 40.
