84-Year-Old Woman Dies and 81-Year-Old Man Injured in DUI Collision on Gertrude Avenue

STOCKTON, CA (November 17, 2021) – Authorities arrested Juan Cabrera after killing an 84-year-old woman in a DUI crash on Gertrude Avenue.

The tragic accident happened around 8:45 p.m. on November 14, along the 700 block of S. Gertrude Avenue.

California Highway Patrol reported that Cabrera driving a pickup truck at high speed rate and failed to stop at a red light and struck an SUV on the passenger’s side.

Responding officers declared the passenger dead at the scene. Meanwhile, medics transported the driver to the hospital with severe injuries.

The impact of the crash caused the SUV to split into half and threw some parts at a nearby house.

In addition, CHP said that the three residents of the house suffered unspecified injuries.

According to police, Cabrera tried to flee the scene but a group of neighbors ran after him. Eventually, Cabrera now faces charges of felony hit and run resulting in injury or death, DUI causing bodily injury, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated with a bail set at $1.6 million.
