3 Injured in Fatal Head-on Crash near Camino Diablo

BYRON, CA (July 11, 2023) – Wednesday afternoon, a head-on collision on Vasco Road left Juan Rafael Bautista dead and three others injured. The incident happened on June 21st, shortly before 2:00 a.m., on Vasco Road, just south of Camino Diablo. According to the authorities, a Dodge Ram, a Toyota Tacoma driven by 47-year-old Bautista, and a Chevrolet Express were involved in the collision. Upon investigation, the officers discovered that the Dodge was headed southbound when it veered over to the northbound lanes and collided head-on with Bautista for reasons currently unknown. Furthermore, the Chevy which was headed northbound struck the Dodge that was overturned from the first collision. Unfortunately, Bautista died at the scene due to the extent of his injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of the Dodge suffered major wounds. Their passenger along, with the driver of the Chevy, received minor injuries. Consequently, two of them were airlifted to the hospital. At this time, it was unknown why the Dodge veered over to the opposite lanes. Further investigation is still ongoing.
