Traffic Accident on Pond Road Left One Dead, One Injured

BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 14, 2022) – A crash on Highway 43 claimed the life of Juan Antonio Fernandez Thursday afternoon, police said.

The collision happened around 3:45 p.m. along Highway 43 and Pond Road, involving an SUV and a sedan.

Furthermore, both vehicles ended up crashing off the roadway and into a ditch.

Moreover, investigators stated that a westbound Toyota Corolla on Pond Road proceeded into the intersection and in front of a northbound Ford Expedition on Highway 43.

Eventually, both vehicles collided and left the Toyota driver, identified as Fernandez, dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the 57-year-old Ford driver Guillermo M. Valera sustained minor injuries.

Both directions of the roadway temporarily shutdown to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.

Bakersfield Officials ruled out intoxication as a factor in the crash; however, an active investigation is currently underway.
