Two-Vehicle Crash near Arlington Avenue Kills 17-Year-Old Driver; Woman Hospitalized

SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (August 29, 2023) – Early Sunday, a hit-and-run collision on West Adams Boulevard left Josue Mendez-Portillo dead. The deadly crash happened around 1:00 a.m., near West Adams Boulevard and Arlington Avenue. According to reports, a car traveling eastbound on Adams crashed into a car going southbound on Arlington. The impact of the collision caused the two vehicles to crash into a wall nearby. Responding authorities said the occupants of the eastbound vehicle –two women and a man– exited their vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Meanwhile, the driver of the southbound vehicle died at the scene. Officials later identified him as 17-year-old Josue Mendez-Portillo. Paramedics also rushed the teenage boy’s 20-year-old female passenger to a local hospital for unspecified injuries.
