Hit-and-Run Driver Sought After Injuring 3-Year-Old Josiah Hilario at 801 Palm Avenue

IMPERIAL BEACH, CA (April 4, 2023) – Wednesday evening, 3-year-old Josiah Hilario was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash at Breakwater Shopping Center.

Officers responded to the incident in the parking lot of the shopping center at 801 Palm Avenue in Imperial Beach.

According to the police, Josiah was walking to get ice cream near the T-Mobile store when a white vehicle, similar to a Honda CRV, ran over the child’s foot.

However, the driver did not render aid and fled the scene. Two witnesses attempted to stop the driver, to which the suspect did not comply and drove off on Palm Avenue.

The responding paramedics took Josiah, who has a diagnosis of non-verbal, level three on the autism spectrum, to the hospital with a serious foot injury.

Imperial Beach Officials are working to determine the suspect’s identity or the suspect’s vehicle.

Moreover, both directions of the roadway were temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.
