12-Year-Old Boy Dies in Fatal Collision on Main Street in Oakley

OAKLEY, CA (August 26, 2021)Wednesday afternoon, 12-year-old Joshua Shaefer was killed in a deadly train crash on East Cypress Road.

Officers received reports of the collision around 12:53 p.m., on East Cypress Road and Main Street. Dispatchers arrived to the area shortly after.

Authorities say the events leading up to the collision remain unclear. However, one vehicle rolled over as a result of the accident.

Medics airlifted a 19-year-old woman to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. She was said to be suffering critical injuries.

In addition, firefighters pronounced a 12-year-old boy dead at the scene. He was identified by his mother, Melissa Shaefer. The family says the 19-year-old was his half-sister, and she was picking him up from school at the time.
