20-Year-Old Woman Killed in DUI Collision near Dunaway Road

IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA (November 29, 2022) – Sunday evening, Joseph Zhou was arrested and a woman was killed in a head-on crash on Interstate 8.

The incident happened around 2:30 p.m., on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 8 near Dunaway Road on November 20th.

According to reports, Zhou was driving a 2022 Toyota Tacoma westbound on I-8 when he lost control of the vehicle. The Tacoma then drifted over the center median into the eastbound lanes.

There, the truck collided head-on with an oncoming Kia. The impact of the collision left both drivers with serious injuries.

Medical personnel arrived and pronounced the Kia driver, a 20-year-old woman from New Jersey, dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics airlifted the Toyota driver, 24-year-old Joseph Zhou of San Marcos, to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries. 

Police later arrested Joseph Zhou for felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
